Before the first use, the fleece liners should be washed to ensure their absorption characteristics, in the same way as for a towel. Otherwise, your pet might get its paws a bit wet at the beginning.
Usually, it takes a few washes to fully release its absorption performance.
The washing frequency will depend on the number of piggies, their food (e.g. lots of vegetables rich in water) and surrounding conditions (e.g. temperature, ventilation will influence the daily evaporation of the wee). The main criteria are that the liner does not get too wet on the top surface so that the paws of your pet remain dry.
Usually, we wash our liners every 3 to 4 days, and we remove the poop every 2 days (we shake the liners above the compost).
For the washing, we recommend to wash the fleece liner at 30°C with a regular washing powder/liquid and a bit of anti-bacterial laundry cleanser to keep your washing machine clean (usually, the laundry cleanser is added to the softener drawer, check its instructions)
You can also use bleaching product for rinsing your washing machine instead of the cleanser (But do not use the bleaching product on the fleece liner! It will permanently damage the colors)
If your piggies have long hair (e.g. Peruvian guinea pigs) or lose their hair, you can dust off or vacuum the liner. It will ease the cleaning.
